PARENTING/FAMILY WORKSHOPS
Do as I Do
Adults often send mixed messages to kids because of their failure to "Practice What They Preach." A dynamic, interactive session of personal evaluation and discovery designed to demonstrate how our actions speak sooooo much louder than our words.
Because I Said So!
Power struggles between adults and children leave everyone involved, frustrated, and unsatisfied. Learning to recognize the challenge before it becomes a problem is key to an equable resolution. Positive Communications and Successful Goal Setting are the focus in this entertaining and enlightening session.
Why Can't We Be Friends?
Children choose their friends for many reasons. Why would they choose any adult, including their parents, to be a "friend"? This Games and Activities session offers practical opportunities for adults and to "make friends" with children.
Understanding Generation Why?
The older children get, the less they look to adults for leadership and direction. Understanding "their world" and the way they think, is paramount to maintaining their admiration and respect. Lively group discussion and interactive activities are the tools utilized to build the foundation of this mind and eye-opening session.
GENERATION WHY? PROGRAM
Jim has been working in Youth Programs since 1983 and conducts trainings for the people who work in Youth Programs since 1986. So many years later, I'm amazed to say there still remains a huge void in Programming designed for the 13 to 16 year old child-teen-young adult. Jim recently hung out with some of these "early teen" folks and discussed at length their feelings towards adults in general. Here are his results:
Lament of Generation WHY?
From an Early-teen to a Later-adult
In response to your questions
WHY? I can't - WHY? I don't
Trying being me in the world you've created
Playing your game by rules you've instated
Too old to cry - Too young to shout
Too old for bedtime - Too young to go out
Too old for an allowance - Too young for a job
Too old for Bobby - Too young for Bob
Too old for puppy love - Too young for Cupid
Too young to be wise - Too old to act stupid
Too young to have my own style - Too old to be chosen for
Too old to share a room - Too young to lock the door
Too old to be a kid - Too young to be an adult
Please tell me - Let me know
WHAT AM I THE RIGHT AGE FOR?
We know all kinds of kids that fit this profile. They've grown up in our Programs, but now they're "too old" to be a participant but "too young" to be a part of the Staff. Jim, and they, don't think that is right. He's been advising Staff for years to start a Counselor In Training Program if they do not already have one. He's heard the "moans and groans" about how hard these "kids" are to work with, how "immature" they act, how much the "require more attention than the little kids." Jim thinks it is time we stopped whining and started Making It Work. His father always told him to either Lead, Follow, or get the Hell Out of the Way! With that thought in mind, if you're SERIOUS about providing your talented young adults with the opportunity to enhance your Programs while discovering their unlimited potential, CONTACT US today and we'll get you started on the way to Understanding Generation Why?!
